My final version of Sargeant Fred Colon of the Ankh Morpork City Watch.
This is the last character in my series of City Watch illustrations but I am a huge fan of the Witches and Tiffany Aching series so watch out for some fierce wee Nac Mac Feegles in the new year!
Progress on Fred Colon, he is looking close to finished, just need to do the final shading in colour.
I decided to show him standing as tall as he can, with his chest puffed out and a self important look on his face.
He stands about a head taller than Nobby, but he’s still shorter than Vimes, some of the earlier sketches made him look a bit like a dwarf so I made the legs a little longer.
Latest line up of the watch, Corporal Nobby Nobbs, Commander Sam Vimes, Sargeant Cheery Littlebottom, Sargeant Detritus, Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson, Sargeant Angua and her Werewolf form
The final version of Nobby, grimey, disgusting and barely human.
In December look out for Sargeant Fred Colon.
Here is part 2 of the Nobby sketches, I’m trying to get a feel for the face here, going for sharp, skinny and pointed looking and bringing out a rat-like look to the character.
November is Nobby Nobbs month, here are the initial rough designs for the character, again its coming in two posts this time because I got carried away.
Nobby is one of the original cast of the watch, a street urchin and thief when he first joined and a revolting, scummy little creature. He has a certificate to prove he is in fact of the human species.
Here is the final version of Cheery, I have added a few of the changes that led to this, adjusted the face shape slightly, gave her an Iron rather than Copper helmet to show her dwarf identity, she has even welded her own high heels onto the standard leather boots of the watch.
Next month look out for Nobby Nobbs!
Progress on Cheery, the basic outline and stance is ready, just got to get the details, work out how to define her face and beard.
Here is part 2 of the Cheery sketches, I’m starting to develop the general character and uniform a bit more, having fun with male and female comparisons, getting a feel for her posture and movement and the shaping of her face and hair.
For October i have been sketching up ideas for Cheery Littlebottom, revolutionary female dwarf of the watch. I got quite carried away in the sketching stage for this so I’m posting the initial sketches in two parts - this is part 1 with the roughest sketches and ideas.
Cheery is a female dwarf and like all dwarves she is bearded and covered head to foot in chainmail. The gender of Discworld dwarves tends to be quite a tricky matter. However, she is revolutionary as the first female dwarf to start wearing make up and (goodness) showing off her knees!
Rincewind fought as he always fought, without skill or fairness or tactics but with a great deal of whirlwind effort. The strategy was to prevent an opponent getting enough time to realize that in fact Rincewind wasn’t a very good or strong fighter, and it often worked.
I’ve always liked Willikins, ever since his first appearance as a minor character. He is a true gentleman’s gentleman. Do not cross his family
The truth isn’t easily pinned to a page. In the bathtub of history the truth is harder to hold than soap, and much more difficult to find…
Thin, pale, and clad all in dusty black, the Patrician always put Ridcully in mind of a predatory flamingo, if you could find a flamingo that was black and had the patience of a rock.
